FAQs
Let’s Talk Maine Coons!
What is the price for a kitten? The price for a female Maine Coon kitten is $2500-$3000 and males are $3500. A high-quality, healthy kitten from parents who have had all proper screening is incredibly difficult to find at this price. Most are $4,500 and up. Many breeders charge prices even higher than this and they do not do testing, or they only do DNA testing which is the bare minimum. I have seen this especially with social media famous breeders, charging $5500-$7000 for a kitten whose parents have only had DNA testing. Ugh. A red flag to look for is the vague statement “health tested” with no specifics as to which tests they’ve completed, which in 90% of cases in my experience means they only did DNA testing on their breeding cats, which costs a mere $100.
Echocardiograms can run $900+, hip x-rays $500+, and fecal and respiratory PCRS and corresponding treatment are approx $500-$2,000 depending on the issue. It’s very expensive to do this ethically, but more than 50% of the cats I’ve imported have not passed all of these screenings and were rehomed at a huge financial loss, but if a breeder is not paying for the adequate screenings for this breed, then there is a high chance they are producing kittens who will arrive with or will later develop health issues, with the associated costs being passed onto the buyer. I keep prices as low as I possibly can because I love what I do and I love spreading joy through my kittens, but these are break-even prices for the quality that I am providing.
How can I reserve a kitten? You will need to complete the kitten application here and I will send you an email so make sure to check your inbox. From there, we will schedule a video call so that you can meet the kittens. If you’d like to proceed, there is a $500 deposit made via Paypal. You will then receive weekly updates until your kitten is 12 weeks old and ready to go home.
I don’t live nearby, can I still get a kitten? Yes, kittens can be delivered to anywhere within the U.S. Either I or my flight nanny can hand deliver your kitten to you for an additional cost (usually the ticket cost).
Can I come visit my kitten first at your house? No, unfortunately I do not do home visits and the reason for this is because the world can be a crazy place. I’ve heard of breeders houses getting robbed and vandalized by people who pretended to want a kitten. I’ve also heard of cats being stolen (after all, breeding cats are valuable and expensive). In addition to these risks, there are harmful viruses or bacteria or fungi such as ringworm that can be carried in unknowingly and can absolutely decimate a cattery. However, I love doing video chats so that you can meet your kitten virtually instead.
Do you offer any type of health guarantee? Yes, despite doing everything in my ability to produce healthy kittens, things can and do happen because there is so much of genetics that is still unknown. If your kitten passes away prior to the age of 3 from a congenital disease diagnosed by a licensed veterinarian, you will receive a replacement kitten at no additional cost.
That being said, there are certain viruses that are so common that upwards of 90% of cats are asymptomatic carriers of them, and these include Feline Herpes and Coronavirus. I quarantine and screen every new import for respiratory viruses, but if I excluded asymptomatic carriers of one or more of these two viruses, I would not have any cats left, and neither would any of the other catteries either, whether they talk about this or not. These are extremely common in multi-cat households and usually cause no issues or symptoms. If you have ever adopted a cat from a shelter they would likely test positive for one or both of these if you were to conduct a respiratory PCR (although herpes is notorious for giving false negatives). The important thing is for all cats in the household to be kept up to date on vaccines, and there will rarely if ever be any issues.
What food are the kittens fed? Your Maine Coon kitten has been raised on a diet of Iams kitten kibble available 24/7, and two meals per day of Nulo cat and kitten wet food mixed with Proviable probiotics or goat kefir and a homemade immunity supplement that I am happy to share the recipe for.
What will my kitten’s personality be like? While each kitten still has their own unique personality and I cannot promise anything, most kittens are outgoing, intelligent, confident, constantly purring and very sweet and affectionate. This applies equally to both male and female kittens. I prioritize intense early socialization which means lots of holding, touching, carrying, grooming, bathing, exposure to new people, new pets, and new noises etc. I even take them on car rides. This heavy socialization paired with being born from parents who also have incredible temperaments, all of this means that I’m fairly confident that you’re going to absolutely fall in love with your kitten’s personality!
