Ethical Breeding with Heart and Dedication
Finding an ethical breeder is hard but well worth the search. The Maine Coons in this program are screened with DNA testing, FIV/Felv testing, echocardiograms, hip x-rays, fecal and respiratory PCRs, and all adult pedigrees are uploaded to Pawpeds where the inbreeding coefficient is calculated before any pairings take place (Even if you don’t get a kitten from me, PLEASE require these things of your breeder).
Maine Coons are large cats that are prone to hip dysplasia and heart disease. DNA testing alone is NOT ethical breeding. If a breeder does not do hip x-rays and echocardiograms, they are most likely producing kittens who will suffer later in life and leaving you on the hook for the cost to manage these conditions.
